What are we doing?

On 6th July 2024 we are climbing three mountains in under 24 hours to raise much needed funds to further support the homeless and less fortunate in our local community: Newbury.

Including offline donations from fabulously generous local companies and some amazing support from Greenham Trust, our total is now approaching £15,000 … THANK YOU.

About our Charity

In 2017 Meryl set up Newbury Soup Kitchen (NSK), a voluntary organisation providing help & support to the local homeless, rough sleepers & those less fortunate in our community.

Each day the number grows of those who face an uphill struggle for food, accommodation and to reach the support services they need with NSK often being the first place they come.

On 6th and 7th July a team of NSK volunteers will embark on the Three Peaks Challenge, setting themselves 24 hours to climb Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon - the three highest mountains in Scotland, England and Wales. Your support will help fund the work of NSK which changes lives, often saving lives.

About our Mission

Our challenge begins at the foot of Ben Nevis on Saturday 6th July. We aim to begin the challenge at 2pm, this should mean we are down by 7:30pm. We then travel to Scafell Pike where we ascend and then descend in darkness ready for the last leg to Snowdon where we aim to be up and down by 1pm on Sunday 7th - completing the challenge in under 24 hours!

The clock starts when we take our first step on Ben Nevis and stops when we are down at the foot of Snowdon. (now called Yr Wyddf pronounced Uhr With Va)

About our Team

Our team is made up of Newbury Soup Kitchen volunteers who have come to know many of the local community through their work with the charity.

We are also hoping to be joined by some more climbers in the coming month or so - stay tuned for more information and our blog that will be coming soon.

Support from local business

We are so lucky to live in a community where many local businesses take CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) seriously and have pledged money to support not only our challenge but on a monthly basis to Newbury Soup Kitchen via the Soup Dragons initiative. Our community thrives on the generosity and commitment of these local businesses, which recognise the importance of giving back and creating a positive impact. By contributing to our cause, they are not only helping to address immediate needs but also fostering a culture of compassion and responsibility that benefits everyone. The ongoing support from these businesses ensures that Newbury Soup Kitchen can continue to provide essential services and support to those who are most vulnerable in our community.
